Cassandra Croft is an American vocalist and songwriter residing in New York City.
Her forthcoming release Country Of Your Mind, produced by Randall Dunn, introduces a new voice to contemporary music. Melismatic and ethereal, her voice evokes raw emotion through Rilkean lyricism that centers essential questions of the human condition, and of our time: Which pieces of ourselves belong to us? When things fall apart, who do we choose to become?
Croft’s vocals first appeared in 2020 on compilation by Grouper, a benefit for a local animal shelter entitled Let It Come To You.
Croft would later enter Circular Ruin Studio in NYC to record a full-length studio record with Randall Dunn—best known for work with Sunn O))), Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Earth. The record comprises nine tracks selected from a vast body of material, written quietly from life as Croft moved from the West Coast to NYC, and during ritual retreats to her grandmother’s wildlife preserve in rural Virginia.
The summer of 2024 saw Croft as an artist-in-residence at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory Art/Science Exchange—with support from the National Science Foundation—where she deepened the ecological questions that belong to her songs.
In October 2024, Croft took the stage with Rachika Nayar and her string quartet at Knockdown Center, Brooklyn, opening for Alessandro Cortini (NiN)—a special performance of their cover of This Mortal Coil’s ‘Song to The Siren’ with Julianna Barwick, released on Red Hot’s TRANƧA compilation on November 22, 2024.
